PS MUSSA MOTIVATES DON BOSCO TECHNICAL COLLEGE STUDENTS
The Secretary for Labour, Chikondano Mussa has underscored the need for technical education in the development of the country.
She said this when she visited Don Bosco Technical College to inspect the ongoing July 2024 Tevet examination series, where she also had a chance to tour the institution as a way of familiarising herself with the services being offered by the institution.
According to Mussa, realization of Malawi vision 2063 agenda is dependent on the country having a well skilled labour force.
She has since requested the college to be innovative by introducing new courses that well responds to the current demands in the technological sphere and also expanding access for training to accommodate demand for labour through the government’s labour export flagship program.
“To run the economy of the country, professionals requires the services of technicians like these ones being trained here which clearly attests the importance of technical education," Said Mussa.
On the ongoing exams, the PS expressed satisfaction with how the examinations are being administered, commending the good atmosphere and student invigilator ratio, where two invigilators were managing 33 students.
Assistant Labour Commissioner, responsible for Trade Test who also chairs TEVET examinations Assessment and Certification Unit (ACU), Joseph Chirombo, said administering of the July 2024 Tevet examination series is on track.
He has since assured the college that they will ensure timely provision of certificates for the candidates.
Teveta’s Director of Quality Assurance Patrick Mputeni, has since urged the ACU to quick start preparations for the December examination series as there is a high expectancy of examinations candidature due to the increased enrolment of students in the technical colleges this year.
Don Bosco’s acting Deputy Vice Principal, Peter Lungu, thanked the PS for visiting the college and has since registered the institutions’ commitment to empowering young people through the provision of skills and training.
The college has a 745 student population.
