Ministries of Labour and Mining to collaborate Towards Increased Labour Force in Mining Sector

In a quest to enhance initiatives towards the realisation of Malawi Vision 2063, Minister of Labour, Honourable Agnes NyaLonje and her Mining counterpart, Honourable Monica Chang'anamuno, met to discuss possible collaborations by the two ministries to boost labour force in the the country's mining sector.

Speaking during the meeting, NyaLonje said her Ministry is keen to ensure that through her Ministry, all critical sectors in the country have the necessary skills and technical know-how towards national development.

"We are here to serve other ministries so that the country does not fail for not having enough and skilled labour force," she said.

According to Chang'anamuno, there are a lot of budding projects in her Ministry hence the collaboration with the Ministry of Labour may help address the current gaps in skilled technicians and artisans to work in the mining sector as well as the issues of unemployment

Present during the meeting was the Executive Director for TEVET Authority, Elwin Sichiola, who underscored the need for modifying the TEVET curricular to suit the current demands.
