National Volunteer and Internship Framework Launched
Minister of Labour, Agnes NyaLonje, has on 9th December, 2023, launched the National Volunteer and Internship framework, to guide Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs), as end users, on how best to manage volunteers and volunteering programmes to maximise volunteering benefits.
The launch took place during the National commemoration of International Volunteer Day, which is internationally recognized on 5th December.
Speaking at the event, NyaLonje said, volunteering is a noble act that is capable of transforming societies and bringing lasting impact human kind, citing the work they do to provide services in critical areas such as health, education, environmental management and economic empowerment. Volunteers are able to reach the most marginalised and isolated communities with life-saving interventions.
She said Malawi can collectively benefit a lot from volunteering, reaffirming Government’s commitment to promote it at all levels.
“As Government, we are already working on enhancing a conducive policy framework for volunteering so that we volunteer more and contribute to the achievement of the goals of Malawi 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals,” she said.
In her remarks, UNDP Resident Representative, Ms Fenella Frost, commended the work volunteers do in the country, further calling for the good implementation of the framework launched.
During the event, which took place at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), the Minister recognized and awarded certificates to outstanding volunteer organisation in the year 2023.
